A Challenge That
Needed Solving

In early 2014, the Danish Digital Library (DDL) was undergoing a reorganization. New people were stepping in to manage publisher agreements, only to find that critical information was scattered, unstructured, and difficult to access. Instead of adding yet another spreadsheet to the pile, they reached out to us to explore the possibility of building software that could manage the entire acquisition cycle.

Bridging Experience Across the Industry

With more than a decade of experience in the information industry, publishing, and subscription agencies, we brought insight from every side of the table. We understood the complexities — from licensing and pricing to negotiations and renewals — and recognized that consortia were relying on workarounds like spreadsheets, Post-It notes, and homegrown databases. No existing solution could fully support the unique needs of library consortia.

Our Mission

We're here to reduce complexity, save time, and give consortia and libraries the tools they need to succeed — today and for the future.

Building a Better Way

Together with DDL, we set out to change that. What began as a project to simply store agreement data quickly evolved into something much more: a platform to streamline information flow between publishers, consortia, and member libraries, and a decision support tool for both administrators and their members. In just six months, we launched the first beta version of ConsortiaManager in November 2014 — and processed DDL’s renewals through the system that same year.

Community

Since that first launch, we’ve grown alongside the global library community. Today, ConsortiaManager supports consortia across five continents, 17 countries, over 12,000 member institutions, and more than 100,000 subscriptions. Even as we’ve expanded, we’ve stayed committed to collaboration. Every consortia we work with helps shape the platform, bringing us new challenges, ideas, and opportunities to make ConsortiaManager stronger for everyone.

Today, ConsortiaManager is used by more than 12,000 consortia members worldwide
